My Scraps & More Sketch # 45

Here is another of the weekly sketches from My Scraps & More.  I was determined to use up old stash so I dug out a 6x6 paper pad and did minor damage to it along with digging out very old flip flop 3-D stickers.  I also used a stencil that I haven't used before along with Gesso to soften the very bright green of one of the papers

My Scraps & More Sketch # 47

Here's another for My Scraps & More weekly sketch challenge  This layout was also inspired by a challenge at Soul Scrappers to use inspiraiton from one of several photos from Argentina.  That was easy one since one of them immediately made me think of a photo I took of a home and wall on Venice Beach that was super bright and colorful.

So with sketch in hand and great photo, I began and quite quickly hit a wall.  The colors in the photo were so bright that no combinaiton of papers seemed to work - not even basic white/balck.  UNTIL I saw this paper from Glitz's new Wild & Free line and it worked perfectly (I think) AND I got the whole collection for only $9 during a Hobby Lobby sale.  Yes, I know I have been going a little pink/teal crazy lately but, hey - when it works, go with it :-)

My Scraps & More Sketch # 46

I created this last weekend for My Scraps & More Sketch # 46 challenge but totally forgot to post it - woops!  I persoanlized the sketch by using one large photo rather than the two small photos n the left and then put the two blocks on the left and right sides at slightly different levels from one another .

The burlap paper is a new find at Joane's - DCWV burlap paper.  Very cool!  The rest of the papers are from old paper pads.  I am trying to be better about using my old papers rather than always diving right into my new orders form My Scraps & More.  But don't worry - I can only stay away from new toys for so long :-)

Let's Get Sketchy - September Week 2

At the risk of being a braggart, I really like how this came out - simple but not boring; bold but not garish; and for once, not too overdone on the embellishments.  Photo was taken at the end of Santa Monica Pier during our recent trip to Los Angeles and the latest sketch from Let's Get Sketchy made it easy!

Let's Get Sketchy - Sep Week 1

I began this layout with a sketch from Let's Get Sketchy.  It's been a while since I have had a chance to scrap and use their layouts so I was really happy that I have had some "me" time in the evenings lately.  And the sketches they create are always fun to work with!  I also used a few prompts from Soul Scrappers CCU20 challenge for journaling, ribbon, washi, white paper, and bright colors.

The layout may look a bit like a 4th of July layout but it's from a soccer match with our home team FC Dallas.  Since their colors are red and white, I decided to go with that color scheme.

My Scraps & More Sketch #41 and Soul Scrapper

Here is another layout based on a sketch from My Scraps & More (Sketch #41).  I will be making a companion page where I rotate the sketch and will post that later this week.  I was also inspired by the MAZC#9 alpha challenge at Soul Scrappers to use a word beginning with "Q", "R", or "P" in the title.  Check it out here along with all their other fun challenges here.

The Ocoee River is an amazing river running through the south eastern part of Tennessee just above the Georgia border.  It has with fantastic rapids for kayaking and rafting and great hiking - one stretch of it was used as the Olympic Kayaking center in the '96 Olympics.  Strongly recommend it for nature outdoor lovers as well as sightseers.

Supplies:
  • Pattern Paper and cardstock:  Close to My Heart
  • Stamp border:  Verve
  • Wooden Embellishments:  Studio Calico
  • Photo corners:  My Minds Eye
  • Tags/Die Cuts:  October Afternoon Travel Girl

Soul Scrappers ATW9

This is a layout I created for Soul Scrapper's ATW9 Germany challenge where we chose from one of several photos from Germany as our inspiration.  I chose a photo of a gothic door.  I picked up on the brick to the right of the door, repeated the arch on my gray border using an embossing folder, and liked the row of stone carvings above the door that I repeated with textured brass brads along the edge of the embossed border.

Zamba! is the name of an eclectic Spanish tapas restaurant in Asheville, NC - one of many yummy stops on our road trip.  This part of the trip was with my mom after picking up my daughter from camp and heading back home.

Supplies:
  • Paper:  Kaisercarft and Close to My Heart
  • Border:  grey cardstock embossed with a folder from Lifestyle Crafts
  • Brads: K&Company
  •  Heart die cuts:  American Crafts
  • Kraft tag:  Recollections
  • Noted journaling card:  Chic Tags
  • Word stickers:  Cosmo Cricket

My Scraps & More Sketch Blog

I created this for My Scraps & More # 42 sketch challenge, though I rotated the sketch.

The photos are of one of the many strange and cool sights along this summer's road trip.  In this case, we were on a very rural stretch of road in Arkansas heading towards Oklahoma.  In the middle of nowhere, miles away from any airstrip (or civilization, for that matter) we came upon a jumo jet in the middle of a field.  As the phrase says - "your guess is as good as mine".

Supplies:
  • Paper:  Echo Park Note to Self
  • Dots:  Candi from Craftwork Cards
  • Label:  Jillibean Soup
  • Journal Tag:  Recollections
  • Letters:  Thickers and K&Co.
